A Story of Purpose, Service, and Impact
In the vibrant town of Channapatna, Karnataka, a little girl named Chitra Rao was born on June 10, 1999, into a family where love, tradition, and service ran deep. While most toddlers were wrapped in soft socks, Chitra’s parents tied tiny ghungroos around her ankles, marking the beginning of a lifelong dance with purpose.
At the tender age of 2.5 years, Chitra, along with her sister Kavya Rao, began their journey in classical dance. Over the years, the sisters became widely known as the Channapatna Sisters for their artistic talent and cultural performances.
With the support of her parents, Kavitha Rao and Nagendra Rao, and fueled by the earnings from their daughters’ performances, Kavitha Rao founded the Daarideepa Old Age Home — a sanctuary where abandoned elders could spend their final years with dignity, love, and care.
Carrying Forward the Family’s Cultural Legacy
Chitra’s sister Kavya Rao later established Shanthala Kalakendra, a cultural institution dedicated to promoting Bharatanatyam, Carnatic music, and traditional arts. Inspired by this vision, Chitra continued walking the same path of preserving Indian culture through dance and arts education.
Today, Shanthala Kalakendra has grown into a vibrant learning space with more than 150 students in 2026, nurturing young talent and passing on the richness of classical traditions to the next generation.
Balancing Career, Passion, and Social Service
Alongside her passion for dance and service, Chitra pursued her MBA graduation while managing a demanding corporate career. At the same time, she built her own marketing agency Digidoot Solutions 360, while actively working through YuDharma NGO, an initiative dedicated to environmental responsibility and social awareness.
The Ride for Awareness: Kanyakumari to Kashmir
Determined to spread awareness about respecting parents and elders, Chitra embarked on an extraordinary solo motorcycle journey from Kanyakumari to Kashmir, covering more than 5,000 kilometers across India.
She personally visited over 40 colleges, interacting with thousands of students and encouraging them to respect, care for, and stay connected with their parents and grandparents.
Recognised as Youth Icon & Swachh Bharat Brand Ambassador
Chitra’s consistent social initiatives eventually drew the attention of the Ramanagara City Municipal Council (CMC). Through her NGO YuDharma, she had already been actively conducting cleaning drives, civic awareness programs, environmental campaigns, and youth volunteer mobilization.
Recognizing these sustained efforts — along with the inspiration created through her awareness ride — the CMC officially appointed Chitra Rao as the Swachh Bharat Brand Ambassador in November 2025. She was also honoured as the Youth Icon of Ramanagara.
Till date, she has converted 7 major garbage black spots into clean community spaces, conducted awareness programs across several colleges, and built a network of youth volunteers supporting Swachh Bharat initiatives.
The Five Pillars of Chitra Rao’s Life
Personal Growth – continuously learning, dancing, riding, and evolving.
Family Responsibility – supporting parents and strengthening Daarideepa Old Age Home. Societal Responsibility – promoting awareness about elder care and civic responsibility. Environmental Responsibility – driving initiatives through YuDharma.
Financial Responsibility – running Digidoot Solutions 360 while sustaining social initiatives.
In a World Chasing Headlines, Chitra Rao Chose Purpose
While many seek recognition, Chitra chooses responsibility. While others chase popularity, she focuses on impact. From dance stages to social campaigns, from motorcycle journeys to civic transformation, Chitra Rao continues to inspire a generation to live with purpose, integrity, and compassion.
Her journey reminds us that the real meaning of success is not what we achieve for ourselves — but what we build for others.
